Parties

The Jazz BANG parties begin with a ...bang. We pack our evening programs with the best live music in Australia, and a band line up curated by our music managers Sam Carroll (International DJ and jazz dance historian) and Andrew Dickeson (band leader and jazz historian).

Don't turn up late: you'll miss the jazz.

Saturday evening

Friday Evening

8.00pm, Friday 4th May, Ruby's Dance Hall, 14 Cadogan St, Marrickville (MAP), $30 at the door (or included with Everything Pass), feat. the Unity Hall Jazz Band.

Welcome to Jazz BANG. Let us introduce you to our guest artists.

Who's the band?
Sydney's (in)famous Unity Hall Jazz Band will take the stand, playing hot jazz inspired by New Orleans, but rooted firmly in Sydney's inner west.

What's on the menu?
We'll get to know each other with a light supper, drinks, and DJed music, then our guest MC Georgia Brooks will introduce our musicians and teachers in a musical performance.
Then we will DANCE.

Sharon's new venue Ruby's Dance Hall has become a hub for balboa and live jazz in Sydney, hosting regular parties and workshops, as well as weekly classes. The floor is perfectly worn in (smooth wood and easy on the knees), there's a comfortable seating area for non-dancing guests, and trains and buses are only a short walk away.

Dress for comfort (smart casual if you like specifics), BYO alcohol, and be sure to introduce yourself to as many people as possible.

Let's dance!

Friday Evening

Saturday Evening

8.30pm, Saturday 5th May, Ashfield Polish Club Ballroom, 73 Norton St, Ashfield (MAP) $40 at the door (or included with Everything Pass), feat. Andrew Dickeson's Jazz Family Band.

Let's dress up.

Dress up, dress nice, but come dressed to dance, because this the Jazz Family Band is unrelenting. The rhythm section has expanded and the vibes are fleshing out the already well-rounded wind and brass sections. This is a dance band, built for lindy hop and balboa.

The Ashfield Polish Club ballroom boasts a large, smooth floor built for dancing. Built in the 1980s, but that just means it has good air conditioning and brilliant acoustics. There will be room for everyone's fun. The club boasts a full bar in the ballroom, a restaurant, and a second bar for quieter drinks during the night.
It's a short walk from train and buses, and has undercover and off-street parking.

Come prepared for a good, solid night of entertainment. Bring your non-dancing friends (there's raised seating for best viewing), but be sure to bring your endorphines.

Sunday evening

Sunday Evening

8.00pm, Sunday 6th May, Ruby's Dance Hall, 14 Cadogan St, Marrickville (MAP), $35 at the door (or included with Everything Pass), feat. Andrew Dickeson's Blue Rhythm Band.

Workshops are done. Everyone's going home tomorrow. You have mad skills and plenty of new friends. Let's get SERIOUS.

We return to Ruby's Dance Hall (the balboa dancers will feel like they've never left), and set up Andrew's Blue Rhythm Band for a night of revelry. BYO alcohol, and dress however you'd like. You deserve it.
