Hamp’s stage shows were (in)famous for his athletic abilities and the excitement of dancers and musicians performing.
But Lionel Hampton’s orchestra recorded many great dancing tracks, including Flying Home. Hamp himself is perhaps most famous for his work in Benny Goodman’s small groups, one of the first integrated stage acts in jazz. This collaboration highlighted the creative relationship between Teddy Wilson, Hamp, Goodman, Gene Krupa, and other great band leaders and musicians.
