A Social Dancer's History of Jazz

We take an hour to look at the history of jazz and swing music, and how it inspired dancers.

This class will follow the history of jazz (from the 1920s to the 1950s), and the history of dance (from the 1920s to the 1950s), introducing some big name band leaders, and some important dance styles.

But this history is a dancer's history of jazz. And it is not a sitting-down lecture; this is a practical dance class where we'll explore how musical changes affect the way we dance.

Your teachers: Sam Carroll and Laura Caesar. Sam is one of Australia's most experienced and highest profile swing DJs, employed as staff DJ at large international events like the Herrang dance camp and the Snowball in Sweden, and playing for dancers since 2004. She's also a massive jazz nerd.
